Our approach will ensure that the project benefits every person that interacts with the corridor and leaves a congestion relief legacy that goes well beyond the addition of new lanes. Accelerate Maryland Partners is committed to:
Transit improvements in Montgomery County and Frederick County
A community grant program
Vision Zero investments
No interest loan program for local fleet conversions
Water quality enhancements
Partnerships with small, disadvantaged, women and veteran-owned businesses
Union and local contractor involvement, including a Project Labor Agreement
Engagement with local community organizations and education institutions
Above & Beyond Commitments
New American Legion Bridge + bike and pedestrian connection across the bridge, connecting trails in Maryland and Virginia
Buses and vehicles with three or more people would be able to use the lanes free of charge, providing opportunities for faster, more-reliable bus transit service
Existing general-purpose lanes throughout the corridor will be retained and will remain free for use by all motorists
$5 million during construction for bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements supporting Vision Zero in Montgomery County
$300 million to provide transit services along the corridor over the life of the 50-year agreement *
$25 million Innovation Alliance that will identify, pilot and implement new and emerging technologies in partnership with Maryland *
Doubling the water quality protection enhancements for the Project, specifically providing water quality mitigation for an estimated additional 160 acres of impervious surface
Local community partnerships with small, disadvantaged, women and veteran-owned businesses, union and local contractor involvement and engagement with local community organizations and educational institutions

American Legion Bridge I-270 to I-70 Relief Plan includes improvements for over 70 miles of heavily traveled highway.
Phase 1 includes improvements on I-495 from the vicinity of the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia, across and including the American Legion Bridge to the I-270 west spur, and the I-270 west spur from I-495 to I-70.
I-495 from the vicinity of the George Washington Memorial Parkway to the I-270 west spur, and the I-270 west spur to I-370, will be delivered first.
